Storm Environmental is a name recognised by many in the UK waste and recycling sector. We are a popular choice with Local Authority and private sector professionals, and as a result, there are many people interested in what is behind Storm and some of the insider facts.
Established in 2008, Storm Environmental initially just supplied spare parts for four-wheeled containers. In 2011, we invested in special tooling to produce our own range of four-wheeled steel bodied waste and recycling containers.
Following certification to the European Standard EN 840, we chose EN 840 for the name of our container range, which featured capacities of 1,280, 1,100, 820, 770, 660 and 500 litres. Storm also developed the EuroPal containers in 940 and 720 litre capacities, designed primarily for bin storage areas serving high-density urban developments.
Since the beginning, Storm Environmental has invested heavily in manufacturing equipment to produce EN 840 and EuroPal container ranges at our Kidderminster facility. Operating from a 100,000 sq ft manufacturing site in the heart of England, our production lines are among the most advanced and efficient in the industry.
While investment in manufacturing technology is necessary, Storm believes its people are its greatest asset. Our four directors – Anton Taylor, Ian Powell, Archie Logan and Richard Ganley – have over 120 years of industry experience. Even after so many years, they all enjoy working in the waste and recycling sector.
Supporting customers in the UK is a dedicated team of account managers: Seb Little (Private Sector), Tony Vargas (London and South East), Chris Graham (Midlands and East England) and Scott Logan (Scotland). Working alongside the head office customer service team, they provide expert support and regular customer engagement throughout the country.
At the heart of Storm’s commitment to growth and new ideas is the in-house design studio. Using state-of-the-art design and development systems, the team continuously enhances existing products and develops new solutions to meet changing industry needs.
Storm Environmental has introduced several market-leading innovations, including see-through window bins, reverse recycling lids and auto lid locks. More recently, the company expanded into street furniture, developing dual litter and recycling bins in partnership with Westminster City Council. These units have become a familiar sight across Westminster, serving both local communities and millions of visitors each year.
With more than two million steel-bodied four-wheeled bins in service across the UK, refurbishment plays an important role in extending product life. To support this, we launched Storm Plus, a dedicated refurbishment service operating from a 50,000 sq ft facility. Equipped with computer-controlled washing, drying and painting systems, Storm Plus restores damaged or worn containers to an as-new condition, ready for many more years of service. The operation is managed by Axine Taylor and facility manager Mike Salter, with a focus on returning refurbished containers to customers within two weeks of collection.
